In the 1960's, Don and Pat Beyers made an initial purchase of 400 acres of mostly non-tillable timberland. Following soon, the "A Frame" or Oak Terrace Lodge was erected.

Beyers Lake - a 66-acre man-made structure set in native oak timber - was the first major improvement added to the site in 1970. Home construction followed soon after, giving birth to Beyers Lake Estates.

Roads, subdivisions and improvements were added throughout the 1970's.

In the 1990's, more homes were built in and around Beyers lake Estates and Oak Terrace Resort came to be. Nine holes of golf were ready for play in 1992; nine additional holes were added in 1993.

Other improvements included the banquet room (1994); Village Homes (1997); The Town Homes, The Inn and Oak Terrace and Mulligan's Restaurant (1999), making Oak Terrace the full-service resort that it is today.

In 2001 a newly-constructed practice facility was added at the south end of the riving range.

A Real Estate boom took place here from 2003 to 2005; Lake View Spa opened (2005), and construction of the Recreation Center got underway.

The adjoining Boy Scout camp shelters Oak Terrace from the intrusion of future development, helping us to maintain a bit of a wildlife sanctuary feel to the property.

Improvements to staff and facilities continue, as Oak Terrace strives to expand its offering to residents and non-resident guests. Additional land has been purchased, homes added and facilities improved - all to keep Oak Terrace on an upward growth curve while continuing to offer the best of golf, resort and Real Estate options in downstate Illinois.
